Greenbriar Welcome Kits. As I mentioned in last month’s Greenbriar Civic Association (GCA) News, the GCA needs a Welcome Kits Coordinator. Please call me at 703-378-6009 and I will be happy to tell you what this position requires. Again, we hear that new residents really appreciated receiving these kits when they moved to our community. We have been preparing and distributing these welcome kits since the early years of the GCA and feel that it is a service that we should continue.
Greenbriar Telephone Directories: They have been distributed to all district representatives. If you are a block captain and have not received your directories, please call your district representatives or me. We’d like these directories to be distributed to all GCA members as soon as possible.
Snow Days Coming (remember the Halloween weekend blizzard?). Here is another repeat request from last month’s column. How about calling me if you are able to help neighbors with snow removal either as a free service or at a nominal fee? I’ll keep a list of volunteers and telephone numbers. I do get calls every year especially from our older neighbors.
Poplar Tree Road Traffic Calming. It took a long time, but I’d like to thank all the folks who worked to get all the petitions necessary for the County to install speed tables on Poplar Tree Road. We hope that these tables will help to eliminate speeders, especially at rush hour, and make residents in the area feel more at ease. The Board has requested the County to begin the process of determining eligibility for traffic calming on Middle Ridge Drive.
Coming Events. Don’t forget to bring your children and cameras to the annual GCA Santa Claus Party on Tuesday evening, December 13, at the Greenbriar Community Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. Your GCA Board provides free cake, cookies and sodas.
Stringfellow Road Widening. The re-routing of traffic on the west side of Stringfellow Road (just north of Poplar Tree) is or will be the new southbound lane of the 4 lanes. The new power utility poles are now in place, from Melville almost to Poplar Tree. The power lines are in the process of being moved over to the new poles. All of the other utilities (gas, telephone, fiber optic, etc.) are in place on the east side of Stringfellow. The water line on the west side is not yet being moved. All utilities are supposed to be moved by April 2012, which is when the new road surface is scheduled to begin.
We would like to wish all of you a wonderful holiday season. If you have any leftovers from the holiday parties, I’m available to help you finish them.
See ya’ll around Greenbriar,
Emerson
