Updates on GCA Events:
Greenbriar Welcome Kits. Coordinator needed immediately. Holly Watkins has been the coordinator of our Greenbriar Welcome Kits for several years. Holly has done a marvelous job collecting the various materials for the welcome kits and distributing them as requested by our district representatives and block captains. However, she is stepping down from the position and we need to find someone to handle this important responsibility. Please give me a call if you would be willing to take over this job for the GCA. Many new residents have been thrilled at receiving these kits when they first move to our community.
Greenbriar Telephone Directory. The 2011-2012 telephone directories are printed and have been distributed to district representatives. I hope you enjoy the directory cover, which as I explained in last month’s column, is as close to the 1970 directory as we could make it. How times have changed!
Snow Days Coming — BRRR! Last spring I was asked to announce in the Flyer that the GCA Board would keep a list of people interested in providing snow removal services, either as a free service to their neighbors or at a minimal cost. If you are interested in this project, give me a call at 703-378-6009 or e-mail me at Emandbarbcale@msn.com with your name and telephone number. As I know from personal experience, my neighbors have been helping me, especially the last two winters when we had historical snowfalls. I’m sure many other of the “younger residents” have been doing the same thing for their neighbors. One of the reasons Greenbriar continues to be the wonderful community it has been for over 40 years.
Condolences: We have lost another of our long-time residents. Ann Abigail Jewell, wife of Col. (Ret) Jim Jewell, passed away on October 10. Ann and Jim have lived in Greenbriar for many years. They raised three children, Lori, Bruce and Doug, who all graduated from Chantilly High School. Ann is also survived by ten grandchildren. Barbara and I attended Ann’s funeral service and were pleased to see so many Greenbriar neighbors who were there to honor Ann and to support Jim and the family.
Coming Events: Please mark your calendars for the GCA-sponsored Christmas Party at the Community Center on December 13. This event continues to be a very popular one with children and their parents. It’s a great time to get pictures of the kids with Santa without standing in a long line at the mall. (we serve free cake and cookies, too.)
See ya’ll around Greenbriar
